8th BAAL Language Learning and Teaching Special Interest Group Conference

BEYOND THE BEGINNER: SUSTAINING SECOND LANGUAGE LEARNING

The Applied Linguistics Research Group atOxfordinvites submissions for both papers and posters.

Particular consideration will be given to submissions that explore questions such as:
How do language learners make progress in the four language skills?
What does research tell us about language learning motivation?
What do we know about how different young language learners are from older language learners?
How can second language attrition be countered?
How can practitioners contribute to local research and theorists/researchers contribute to local practice?

Submissions are encouraged from researchers in all areas of language learning and teaching, including, but by no means restricted to, English language learning and teaching. Research students investigating areas relevant to the conference theme are warmly invited to submit abstracts.

Papers will be 20 minutes long with 10 minutes for questions.  Dedicated space and time will be given to poster presentations.  Queries about the conference can be sent to jess.briggs@education.ox.ac.uk.

Submission procedure:

Submit two Word files

– one containing title (up to 10 words), four keywords summarising the paper/poster, abstract (max 250 words), indication whether it is a paper or poster submission, and details of the author(s) (name(s), affiliation, mailing address and email address), plus a shorter abstract of no more than 50 words for use in the conference programme.  Label in the format first initial_last name_abstract 1

Registration opens on Monday 12 March 2012

Conference fees are:  £150 BAAL members, £170 non-members, £125 students. This fee includes: two lunches, all refreshments and the conference dinner (dinner to be held at WorcesterCollege, Oxfordwww.worc.ox.ac.uk

Accommodation (B&B) for July 4th has also been reserved atWorcesterCollege(£70 B&B) and is arranged through the conference committee.
